Starr H. Smith, age 87, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the Columbine Manor in Salida, Colorado. She was born on November 16, 1920 in Charleston, Missouri the daughter of Malcolm D. and Cora Ree Cofer Howell. A resident of Garden City since 1935 moving from Topeka, Kansas she was a homemaker.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the UMW, Chp. X PEO, Salmagundi, EHU, the Sorosis Club, was a past volunteer at St. Catherine Hospital, had served on the Finney County Historical Society and the Garden City Public Library Board as well as many others all in Garden City, Kansas. She also belonged to the Red Hat Society of Salida, CO.
On March 2, 1941 she married Howard B. Smith in Topeka, Kansas. He died Dec. 16, 2003 in Garden City, Kansas.
Survivors Include: Two Sons, Leo Smith of Thornton, Colorado and Malcolm Smith of Durham, New Hampshire; Two Daughters, Nancy Bornemann of Nathrop, Colorado and Mary Lou Cook of Lamar, Colorado; One Sister, Grace Crask of Los Osos, California; Eleven Grandchildren, Thirteen Great-Grandchildren and Numerous Nephews and Nieces.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-Sara Ann Smith, a brother-Malcolm Howell and three sisters-Mary Heil, Alice Trotter and Nancy Wilke.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 21, 2008 at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas with Rev. Brenda Fluellen presiding.
Interment will be held in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.
Friends may call from Noon-8:00pm on Sunday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, KS.
The family requests memorial be given to the Finney County Historical Society or to the Lee Richardson Zoo both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
