I'm forever thankful that both of our children were blessed with the opportunity to have Marilyn as their teacher during their elementary school years. Mrs. Walker was a very important part of their lives and we heard exuberant happy comments daily about what they were learning in her class. I always enjoyed visiting their classes as Molly was teaching at the Middle School so that allowed me to be a "Room Daddy" for both Matthew and Kelcee. I still remember the time when Molly went to Wichita for a Science Teacher's Conference so it was up to me to get the kids ready and to school on time. I did pretty good for the most part but struggled trying to get Kelcee's hair somewhat presentable yet every effort just made it worse. I happened to run into Marilyn as we were walking into the school building and asked her if she could help me. She happily agreed and in a few minutes had undone the mess I had made much to my relief. I found out later that Molly had made an arrangement with Karen Gibbs who was Kelcee's teacher at the time to correct my poor hair styling skills but Kelcee, Karen and Molly had all kept it secret as not to hurt Dad's feelings. We all had a good laugh about it especially when Marilyn recalled the frantic look on my face that morning. The teachers that helped shape the lives of our children are a gift and we can see the same type of compassionate dedication in Matthew and Kelcee's careers that are devoted to teaching and helping young people. I also remember that Marilyn loved Unicorns so it became her class mascot and I found a recording of the Unicorn Song for her. Kelcee's daughters absolutely love Unicorns so they are once again a popular subject in our homes . We are grateful that the Walker Family was always a part of our lives during our years in Scott City.

Marilyn was a wonderful cook! She hand wrote her favorite recipes as a wedding present to me. I still use them (well I could on those rare occasions when I cook). We didn’t chat often but when we did there was a real connection. We agreed on so much about children and education. I often talk of natural born teachers-she was. To Bill and Yancey, my prayers and love. Becky

Dear Bill & Yancey,
I am so saddened to hear and read of Marilyn's passing. I always enjoyed the emails I received from her telling of your lives together on the ranch. I have great memories of the years I spent working with her in Mankato and Burr Oak. She was such a kind and generous lady and will be missed and remembered by so many people. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Mrs. Walker changed my life, working overtime when i was close to falling through the cracks. I'd spend 90 or so minutes before school everyday with her, trying to get back on track and she never failed to juggle prepping for her classes to find a way to teach me chess, help me write a play or learn how to make a viking boat out of cardboard. She is present in every classroom where I teach and creative project I work on and I still learn from her today and she changed my life in so many ways. All my love and condolences, Mr. Walker and Yancey. She means the world to me to this day still.

Dearest Bill and Yancy, we are both shocked and grief stricken by the news of the loss of your beloved Marilyn. I recall many memories of the stories she shared regarding both of you. Some were humorous, some not so much. We feel blessed to have known her. She was a dedicated wife, mother, teacher, and friend. Love, hugs and tears to each of you. Penny and Gary Turner.

I have so many great memories of visiting Uncle Bill, Aunt Marilyn, Whitney and Yancey. Scott City on the farm, Oklahoma, riding horses, going to Shows, passing outRibbons. Kittens, always kittens They always had a bowl of M&M’s, we snacked on pocorn, that we picked out of their garden. I remember the smell of your pipe uncle Bill
I remember Stilwell!, Ks., pulling Whitney around in the wagon. I remember Aunt Marilyn’s white poodle Michelle, Yancey’s border collie Shack, Aunt Marilyn‘s dog Fergie, she was definitely a little princess And then there’s her companion Gus, they went on walks, and did chores, and fed horses together. I will miss her texts and phone calls, and pictures she sent. She is home, with two people that are her world, Jesus, and Whitney. Yancey she was and always will be so proud of you. You took such great care of her, and uncle Bill too!! Love you Uncle Bill and Yancey
