Obituary of Cleta Ehmke

Cleta LaVern Smith Ehmke, age 96, passed away on Wednesday. January 3, 2007 at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas. Cleta was born March 12, 1910 in Ness City, Kansas, the daughter of William Lee & Flora Estella Sherwood Blackburn. She was a 1928 graduate of Wichita County High School in Leoti, Kansas, was a teacher and homemaker and a lifetime resident of Wichita County. Cleta's memberships include- First Presbyterian Church- Leoti, Kansas Order of the Eastern Star- Scott City, Kansas Rebakah Lodge- Leoti, Kansas On October 1, 1939 she married Victor R. Smith at Goodland, Kansas. He passed away on December 25, 1968 at Garden City, Kansas. On September 3, 1977 she married Herman Ehmke at Leoti, Kansas. He passed away on January 2, 2002 at Garden City, Kansas. Cleta's surviving family includes- Two step-sons- Jesse V. Smith- Leoti, Kansas Guido Smith- Torrington, Wyoming Ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and seventeen great great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clell Blackburn and Clyde Blackburn; a sister, Cleo Woodbury; a step daughter, Cloris B. Case and a step son, Dwight Smith. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2007 at The First Presbyterian Church in Leoti, Kansas with The Reverends Charles Ayers and Terry Woodbury officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery, Leoti, Kansas. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas. Memorials may be given to The Wichita County Health Center or The Wichita County Senior Citizens Center in care of the funeral home.
