When I think of Aunt Catherine, I will always remember the great times she, my Mom and Aunt Ruth had together whether on the phone or in person, they really enjoyed each others company. I will also remember how remarkable it was that she was able to travel at age 94 to Seattle to visit my Mom on her sick bed. When my Mom passed a year later, Aunt Catherine called me on the phone numerous times in the ensuing years to see how Olga and I were doing. It’s was like she was taking my Mom’s place, worrying about us and dispensing news about the family. Up until the last two or three years, she would call whenever something news worthy happened in our area to make sure we were ok.
Grandma Brown, Aunt Catherine and Uncle Bill, and Aunt Ruth and Uncle Raymond were also the first members of my family to meet Olga after we were married in the Philippines and retuned home to the states. It was before we actually met my parents so I can only guess what my Mom thought about that but what we remember is the warm welcome we both received.
Even though we were always far away from Kansas, Aunt Catherine made us feel close. She will be greatly missed.

Catherine’s Strength and Compassion for others was evident during her years at GVRV. She shared a friendship with Audrey McMullen that included many intellectual conversations about life and politics - but it was when she shared stories about her Family that she enjoyed the most♥️

When Aunt Catherine, Mom, and our other Aunt got together good times were to be had, with lots of laughs and memories. Our families got to visit fairly often and we cousins had some good times as we got to know each other. When I was around 5 or so, mom had to have surgery and Aunt Catherine came to help out. She was not familiar in using a gas oven, and left it on a bit long before she lit it.....she as well as I were shocked at the explosion! Other than a bit of singed hair and a great deal of surprised we were all ok, she gathered herself together and made diner. For many years I called weekly to catch up on all the latest family happenings, she was always full of information, keeping up on it all. A few times she had concerns she would discuss with me, and we would problem solve solutions. We often laughed a lot, and talked about my mom and how her other sister was doing. I will miss her, but I am glad she is no longer in pain.

102 yrs 8.5 months.......... wow, what a long life! That is a good picture of her, she looks like my late mother did when mom was only 76. I remember my aunt Catherine as a easy going person that always had a smile on her face and that crazy giggle. When my two aunts got together with my mother, the conversations got lively and......... interesting. They had a good time visiting with each other and the rest of us had a good time listening to them talk about the world's problems. Aunt Catherine made us happy, she was fun to be around.
During the past few years I had to make several trips to KS and along the way I would stop in the retirement village to visit. When we were alone she got serious with me and I learned a bit more about her. Aunt Catherine told me stories about some of her trials and tribulations, and how concerned (worried) she was about the Janke farm, my mother, father, Aunt Jean, her late daughter, Sandy, and my bout with cancer. I saw a very compassionate side of her. I told her not to worry so much, in the end EVERYTHING will be okay. She acknowledged that and was very spiritual; she did not like to see pain and suffering. Yeah, she brought back memories of my late mother, they certainly were sisters, and I certainly know where she is at today.
