Obituary of Dean R. Fairchild

Dean R. Fairchild, age 89, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas.  He was born on September 6, 1931, in Scott City, Kansas, the firstborn of twin sons to H.R. and Laura Greenlee Fairchild.  He attended school in Scott City, Kansas, graduating from SCHS in 1949.

Dean joined the US Air Force in 1951 and was trained as an aircraft mechanic.  He served his country in Texas, Idaho, Colorado, and France from 1951 to 1954.

He entered Fort Hays State University in September 1955 earning a BA degree in History and a Master of Science in History in 1970.  Dean began his teaching career at Plymell School, Plymell, Kansas and taught from 1960-1961.  In August of 1962, he began a 30-year career, teaching History at Scott City High School.

In the spring of 1962, Dean married Sandra Wenderott in Scott City, Kansas.  On May 27, 1972, Dean married Patricia “Pat” Ford in Scott City, Kansas.  She passed away on May 13, 2018 in Garden City, Kansas.

In 1993 after one year of retirement, Dean and Pat moved to Gardnerville, Nevada.  In 2003 they relocated to Shell Knob, Missouri where they lived for nine years.  In 2011 they moved to Nevada, Iowa, before returning to Scott City in May of 2012.

Dean enjoyed traveling in the RV, camping, wood carving, searching for Indian artifacts, reading nonfiction history, ballroom dancing, bowling, watching sports on tv, and watching the Scott City Beavers in action.

Dean is survived by One Daughter - Ragan & Andrew Bonsi of Mission, Kansas, One Son - Brent & Angie Fairchild of Hutchinson, Kansas, One Step-Son - Jeff & Kellie Ford of Rathdrum, Idaho, Eleven Grandchildren, Twelve Great Grandchildren and close personal friends and caretakers - Nancy & Scott Holt of Scott City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, Twin Brother - Dale Fairchild, and One Step-Son - Jim Ford.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas with Rev. Kyle Evans presiding.  Services will be streamed live on Facebook at Price and Sons Funeral Home page (www.facebook.com/priceandsons) starting at 1:55 p.m.

Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday and 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas.
