Thank you for taking the time to not only remember your father so beautifully, yet to also express so articulately the pain and sorrow and angst of so many during such difficult times. I am certain your father would be quite proud of your expressions of care for him. Thank you for being courageous to speak on national news, where I was deeply touched.

I admire the courage it took to write this Robust, Heartfelt obituary. Thank you for having the courage to call out the selfish People who refuse to wear masks that lead to so many unnecessary deaths. Showing that this good man had weaknesses and shortcomings like the rest of us only added to the credibility and power of your writing. My sincere condolences. (I want you to write my obit.)

Mr Farr,
This obituary touches me deeply and resonates with my own grief. My Grandfather died in the same manner. His nursing home was in a community that largely didn't care about public health and refused masks and social distancing. There was a huge outbreak among staff and residents due to community spread and my Grandpa died nine days after testing positive. I was and am so angry and heartbroken. I wouldn't wish this on anyone and I am so sorry for you and your family.
My Grandpa was born in 1932 and I often think of how he would have viewed people today who are refusing to make sacrifices to help others and he and his family did during the Depression and the war.
My husband and I have adhered to all public health recommendations through this whole pandemic and will continue to do so. We wanted the vaccine and will get it at the nearest opportunity.
I have confronted and subsequently stopped talking to several friends and family members who openly mocked these efforts and one who even denied that Covid was what killed my Grandpa. So know that there are some people who DO care and will do anything possible to stop this from happening to someone else's loved one.
Sincerely, Eve and Jesse C from North Carolina.

Marvin, I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I too lost my mom in a nursing home that did a horrible job over 50 deaths. Every word went right thru my heart as I continue to be sick from this lose. I desperately reached out to Governor Murphy’s office when they wouldn’t tell me how many cases no one there knew what a run around. They finally called the nursing home and of course they lied and said it was a mix up. I had assembly men call me back who knows what or if they did anything. My mom worked for the priest feeding them for a lifetime and when she was coherent she would say lord what did I do to be treated like a dog. I can still her screaming, months of standing outside her window. I was a fierce advocate for mom she had dementia and hid it well. And even that got me no where . I couldn’t even go to cemetery with hearse was turned away cause the Veterans Cemetery where mom was going to be with dad was overwhelmed with burials. You expressed so much wish I could talk to you, I feel the same as you. I have really isolated myself cause I cannot deal with the ignorance and stupidy of fellow man to do something so simple. I’ve been told by many people this so much more than a loved elderly person dying . Thank you for sharing tour dad’s story and I will remember him with mom.

Dear Mr. Farr,
I am deeply sorry for the loss of father. Losing a parent changes the world forever. You have stated your loss and the ravages of covid-19 so eloquently that I would like to send your father's obituary to my town paper as a letter to the editor. I will do nothing unless I receive your permission. With kind regards and good wishes, I wish you solace in your memories.

Dear Mr, Farr, This is such a powerful obituary, showing the simple and profound love of a son for the father who had so loved him. The photo of you and your dad brought me to tears. I'm so very sorry for you and for everyone who has lost a loved one to Covid-19 and has not been able to be at the bedside to say farewell and to ease their going, as well as soften your own great loss. I will add your dad's name, and that of Mr. King's and Jenny Allen's fathers to the ever-lengthening list of people and loved ones that I think of during each day. I try to hold my own quiet memorial for people who have had their lives needlessly shortened by a virus that we were told spread easily and was far more lethal than flu; we were asked, but not clearly or forcefully enough, to give up gathering together now, so that those we love will be with us when this virus is gone; we were asked, but not clearly or forcefully enough, to wear a piece of cloth over our noses and mouths to protect, not only others, but ourselves. On hot days, when wearing a mask was a bit less comfortable, I tried to remember my nephew served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Temperatures often reached 120 degrees F, and he wore a scratchy, hot uniform and carried at least 80 pounds of gear on his back. He did that to protect our lives and safety here at home. He now lives in Utah and has been pressing the government there to impose a mask mandate, to ask people to wear a lightweight piece of cloth, to protect the lives and safety of his fellow citizens. My husband and I have stayed home, foregoing holding our toddler grandson, hugging our son, gathering with friends, shopping in stores, eating in restaurants, taking the trip to England we'd planned so that people like our neighbor, a respiratory nurse anesthetist for the Veterans Administration, don't have to experience the pain and sadness of holding our hands and an iPhone as the only links to the family we love as we lost the fight for our last breath. I will remember you, Mr. Farr, and I will remember your dad, Marvin Farr. I will say his name. I will continue to wear a mask. I will wash my hands for 20 seconds. I will keep at least six feet apart, even from those I love so deeply, even when we're outdoors. I will continue to grocery shop online and wash off my groceries before I put them away. I will continue to do all these things with your dad in mind, because science tells us this is necessary, and your dad believed science. I will remember your loss and hope you will be surrounded by the love and comfort that family and friends who understand the ache of missing someone you love will carry you. Thank you for your lovely tribute to your lovely dad. God bless you.

Dear Farr family,
My heart aches upon reading a news story that you were not able to spend final moments of life with Marvin. Our common enemy DEATH wages a fierce battle with the human family -- particularly in the wake of a global pandemic fueled by ignorance and willful disbelief.
My prayer is that you will find comfort in the acts of kindness and loving words from family, friends and concerned neighbors. Know that the pain of your loss will gradually lessen and know that our Creator promises to restore Marvin's life to world free from sickness, pain, sorrow and even free from death itself (Revelation 21:4)! May you draw upon the peace of mind and heart HE offers to guard your hearts and minds until that time! ~Roz Roscoe

Thank you for writing an amazing obituary about your dad and for your willingness to share it so widely. As a nurse practitioner, I am struggling to know how to get many of the folks in my community to take COVID seriously--they just don't get it, or simply refuse to get it. I heard the story on Kansas Public Radio today, and have since posted your composition on several COVID Facebook pages--hoping that people might listen to you, even if they don't hear me. First let me say how sorry I am for your senseless and tragic loss. Your father sounds like a wonderful man who will be deeply missed. I, too lost my mother in July while she was living in a nursing home (they call it a Senior Longterm care facility). Although her official cause of death was heart related, I truly believe she died as an indirect result of this horrible virus COVID-19. I used to visit her three or four times per week and in the end got to see her twice (the last time just hours before she passed). My mother was 89 years old but you would have never known it to look at her. My heart goes out to all people affected by this horrible virus and hold out hope that they have not died in vain. May God’s peace be with your Dad and your family.

First, my deepest condolences to you all on the loss of your Dad. His life was one to be admired and may your family memories offer you all peace and comfort. It’s so hard to lose him but clearly that was made even harder due to the sad circumstances of his passing. Being a man of science, I am sure he would support having his obituary used to educate and help prove to the masses how science actually works. To have the loss of so many lives due to this virus that could be controlled more by the simple wearing of masks is sad beyond measure. Along with each family’s devastating grief, the emotional and physical toll it has placed on health care workers Is so cruel as well. It is clear many fellow Americans are too self -centered to think of others just by wearing masks and social distancing, even when there is clear evidence what could help this situation. Thank you for using your grief as a higher power to help enlighten those who need to come to their senses. Our country is desperate right now and needs every bit of help available. To honor your father’s life, your words shall, in some small way, help our country crawl our way out of this

Hello. I have just finished reading about your amazing Dad. I don’t know you or any of your family but your Dad’s obituary touched my heart.
I am a Canadian, living in Canada and wanted you to know that we are as aware of what Covid 19 is doing to our American neighbours as we are aware of the effect in Canada.Thank you for sharing your Dad’s story.

I am so sorry for you for this story. I do not know you nor did I know your dad. My heart goes out to you for your loss but more for the circumstances of your dads last days. I am in complete agreement and support you about the face masks. We have that here also. I live in Alberta Canada and we have people with the same mentality. I hope your dad was lost in his memories at the end to have made it more bearable. I hope you find peace. It takes time and I still miss my dad 10 years later but I have happy memories of him. I hope you find this also.

thank you for sharing your father's story. He sounds like someone I would love to have met. I also lost my 92 year old father to Covid-19. It was brought into our home by someone not wearing a mask. He also died basically alone. By the time we were allowed to visit he had been alone for 2 weeks and was now in Hospice and didn't know we were there. It breaks my heart every time I think about how he must have felt, being all alone. I sit silently and listen to people who say its all political or "your taking my rights" or for whatever reason believe differently. Well someone took not only your dad and my dads right to live and be with his family, but our right to be with them. I do not wish this on anyone. I am so sorry for your loss..take care, Lori

Thank you for sharing your Dad`s life story. It reminded me of my Dad who passed away a few years ago. We never agreed but we always argued anyway. No one in the family understood why we had to start arguments, but my Dad encouraged me to argue with him from the time I was little. He wanted me to have an opinion. I am so thankful now for fall of these bantering conversations we had. I think we knew each other better than most people will who never disagree in the hope to "keep peace" my Dad taught me that keeping peace, means even when you don't agree with someone, you still love them.
So in that way you and your Dad had great love for one another.. those are the memories that will remain forever.

Your father's story gave me goosebumps, as I opened the attachment a friend sent and read it, aloud to my husband. You should be so proud of him and all he did in the Healthcare field for people and animals. I told my husband that after all is said and done, THAT is what's important in life. Helping others and leaving this place better than we found it. Your father did that and leaves behind a beautiful legacy. Im sorry that our generation, sadly, is not doing a very good job. They have failed to comprehend, as your father so rightly did, that you can believe in God and science...they CAN go hand in hand! Thank you for sharing and I will be sharing this on my FB to hopefully open some eyes toward kindness,, decency,, and humanity! God Bless and having lost my mother a few years ago, I pray for you to find comfort in the good memories!
Natalie Harper, a 39 year old wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt,1st grade teacher, Illinoisian, American, and human that believes in God and science! Thank you and God Bless You, Dr. Farr

My father also died after nine months of isolation in a care facility. He did not die of Covid, he had "failure to thrive" which left him weakened and frail with no fight to fend off what should have been a much more simple health challenge.
I so understand, you have both my sympathy and empathy. Prayers for you and all your family and all those who now walk in our shoes.

My deepest condolences to you the family of Dr. Marvin Farr, who must have been an incredible father, healthcare professional, and person. I am so sorry that he--and you--had to endure the loneliness and separation during his darkest hours, brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. As a physician, I know all too well about life and death, and I am so sorry he had to endure his in that fashion. His obituary is absolutely perfect in its prose, exposing the errors of those who hide behind "individual rights" instead of the greater good, and the selfishness it brings. I pray that memories of good times together will replace your recent memories of pain, and that he will live on in you.

I can’t even begin to imagine how difficult it must be have been to be apart from your father, knowing he likely couldn't understand what was happening to him in his final days. I’m sure his caregivers tried their best to communicate past their personal protective equipment, but it could never replace family gathering around to reassure those leaving that they’re loved. He's been released from the limitations of his physical body now; I believe he knows he's loved. You have my sincerest sympathy.
Every loss is significant. Every soul lost was loved. Every loss echoes a ripple of sorrow and of love out into the world. More than 1.5 million people have died globally from COVID-19. That has created a considerable amount of sadness...and love.
To know there are basic ways to reduce the spread of this deadly virus, I share your anguish; witnessing individuals defiantly refusing to follow simple public health measures. It’s completely nonsensical and tragic.
My mother lived with dementia, and she lived with me. I can’t imagine not having been able to be by her side as this part of her journey ended. My heart is filled with empathy for your sorrow.
Your father chose to be of service in his life; there’s no greater aspiration. I hope you gain solace from that. We are all perfectly imperfect…sometimes we get what we need. Your insight and your desire to share it, is evidence he was the perfect father for you and that you loved him. May each passing day, bring your family a little more peace. God Bless.

My sincere condolences to your family. I do not know you personally, but we are connected in grief. I lost my father, age 79, on November 15, 2020. He went into a nursing home Feb 7 for rehab from pneumonia. Then COVID hit, locked down the facilities and we were separated for 247 days. My dad's health declined from lack of social interaction and the presence of his family. We were able to see him the day before he passed, but he was already a shell of who had been. I'd like to believe that your dad and my dad were guided to a better place, free of pain and sorrow. Thank you for sharing your story, in the hopes that others may be moved to adhere to these simple health restrictions and protocols. No one should have to die alone. I read an article on the moving, powerful obituary of your beloved Marvin. I am a nurse from Boston; I also lost a loved one: my uncle who was a nurse as well. Please let me offer my most sincere condolences and heartfelt prayers. This is the problem with this virus... the selfish and reckless acts of our fellow man are resulting in the loss of innocent bystanders as they carelessly spread this; thinking that their face not being masked is superior to a human life. If there were more in this country like Marvin, we would not be in this unfathomable epidemic that we are today.

Thank you for having the honesty and courage to say what needs to be said about the refusal of so many Americans to do the humane thing to fight this pandemic.
How many families gathered for Thanksgiving and are now facing the consequences? Not mine. All six of my mother's children and their families stayed home. My 86 year old mother spent the day by herself.
Two days later my brother developed symptoms and tested positive. Thirty some people were not exposed in a super spreader

So sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing this, the truth of too many families. I am saddened by the amount of selfishness we are seeing all around us. Sending thoughts and prayers to you and your family from Manchester, NH.

Dear Family,
I did not know Dr. Farr, but I cried reading his obituary. I read about his final days and I cried. I read about his upbringing and I cried. I read about his accomplishments and I cried. I read about who he left behind and I cried. I am so very sorry. It was a loss to all who care so I can only imagine how this is for you. My deepest sympathy. Joyce ( Boston, Ma)

Your Dad sounded to be a wonderful man. I agree with your words about Covid-19 and wish the ones that refuse that simple piece of material would think about others, if they somehow don't care about themselves! I'm so sorry that your Dad had to die in the way he did. This is such a sad time that could be handled so much differently. I heard this morning that our new president is going to be asking us to wear the mask for 100 days straight. I think that's a great idea! Too bad he has to wait until January 20th to ask that, but we should all be doing it anyway. I live in Colorado, I know where Scott City is... you are close. I shake my head at the different attitudes of people in the farming and plains communities. They think they are immune. So wrong... Take care and I hope the loss of your Dad makes an impact on others to do what's right. Again, very sorry for your loss.
Lisa.

I do not know your family nor did I know Marvin, but I want to express my deepest sympathies during your time of sorrow. It is extremely sad that your loss has been made even more difficult by the reality that COVID made it impossible for Marvin to pass away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. I am grateful that my family members who have contracted this virus have been younger and have survived, but I am angered by the number of Americans who have bought into the cruel myth that Covid-19 is a hoax and have, therefore, refused to wear a mask that could have prevented the death of many, many thousands of other people. My prayer is that this country can regain the compassion and empathy for others for which America used to be known. I wish your family peace and comfort in the days ahead.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I know your pain. My 96 year-old father died May 24, 2020 from COVID-19 after showing signs of recovery. He was hospitalized for 10 days before returning to his nursing home. We were sure he would be the one to beat it. But, unfortunately he died four days later. We have so many questions. How did he contract COVID-19? He’d never left the facility the months leading up to his illness. Why wasn’t he returned to the hospital when his symptoms recurred? Our questions remain unanswered. But, it is clear to us that he was the victim of a poorly prepared industry. I am so sorry for your loss.

Your father sounded like an incredibly kind human. My dad too, was one of the great ones and I miss him daily. I pray you and your family can and will find peace in time and keep his memory alive in each of you. I am also sorry your loss has been made even more difficult by the willful ignorance of those who believe Covid-19 is a hoax.

I do not know you Marvin, nor anyone in your family. I want to thank your son, Courtney, from the bottom of my heart for submitting your obit. I hope President-Elect Biden hears of this and has it read at his Inaugural.
May you be greeted in your heavenly home by all your family members and friends who predeceased you, and be overwhelmed by seeing again all the animals you cared for.
It's never too late; please, everyone, where your masks!
Kudos to the hospital workers who put their lives on the line every day!!

I am reaching out to the family to express my sorrow for their loss. My father died September of this year at age 89. No one was with him. He was home alone and in severe pain. Though he did not die of Covid, his legacy, as is the case with Mr. Farr is one of compassion, duty, service to the country and his family and community.
I am proud of Mr. Marvin Farr for his role in the lives of others, be they human or furry. I am proud of the courage it took to write his obituary. That tells me he taught his children well.
I cannot take away your sorrow, but I can tell you that at this moment, my heart is full to overflowing with gratitude that this man lived. I’m also grateful that I was able to read the story of his life. It made a difference. He made a difference. And that, my friend is really something.

Farr Family, I read an article regarding the refusal of so many to abide by mask-wearing statutes and suggestions, and how you incorporated that into Mr. Marvin J. Farr's obituary. I thought it fitting that I stop by. God bless.

I read about you in the Washington Post. My mother also died from Covid this week in a way very similar to Mr. Farr. Thank you for speaking out on behalf of all those who are dying alone. I am heartbroken by people who refuse to protect one another, or dismiss the importance of people like my mom and your dad because they were old and "were going to die anyway." My prayers are with you. Sincerely, Susan Rothenberg, Pittsburgh, Pa.

I love you so much. I am flooded with memories......The most recent when I took you to the K State mountain oyster fry. You told me that I could drop you off and someone would take you home. I INSISTED on going.....even putting on one of Mom's K State shirts. You had mentioned the word "stag" but it went right over my head. We got their and I got us both settled in and went to get our drinks. I noticed on the way back to our table how many men kept saying hello to me, asking if I needed help, and one asked who I was trying to find. I smiled at them and thought they were all so thoughtful and friendly. Then, I sat down and said "dad, everyone is so froendly but are the women all cooking or in another room?" He laughed and said......do you not know what a stag is?.....I said......is that what they are cooking?.... He laughed more and explained it to me......by this time, there was no backing out.....so I held my head high as he introduced me as "his daughter Tesa" to all those who came to our table to say hi to him. We had many good laughs over that..... I miss him, I love him, and I cherish every minute of every day that we had. Always and forever, Tesa

Marvin gave so willingly of his time and talents to keep St. Luke’s Episcopal church going. He always had a smile on his face as we would prepare for Sunday morning services. I enjoyed my “lay-reading days” with him and others at the church. After reading the beautifully written obituary, I was touched by so many memories of Scott City. Peace and blessings to you, Courtney and family. Marsha Grothusen

I will always remember and cherish Marvin’s generous support of the local high school vocal department. He loved hearing the students sing, and he even visited school to bring a most generous donation to them. Marvin was such a bright spot for vocal students, and their teachers.
Praying for Peace for all who will miss him, and that he is enjoying the heavenly sounds and sights of heaven.
