Obituary of Merle Wiederstein

GARDEN CITY Merle Wiederstein, age 88, died on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at his residence in Garden City, Kansas, He was born on November 24, 1926 in Newton, Kansas the son of Harry Wiederstein and Helen Wiederstein McComick. He attended and Graduated from Halstead High School in 1945. He served 17 months in the Armed Services during World War II, 10 months were in the Occupation Force in Germany. Merle received his Bachelor and Masters Degree’s from Emporia State University. On November 22, 1952, Merle was married to Leona Waymire. She Survives. Other Survivors include: One Daughter Sandra Wiederstien Garden City, Kansas One Brother in Law Richard Waymire Ault, Colorado Three Sister in Law’s Pat Waymire Ault, Colorado Jan Waymire Ft. Collins, Colorado Margurite Wiederstien Hesston, Kansas Numerous Nieces and Nephews. Merle was preceded in death by his Parents, two brothers, and one sister. His Life Work was in Education. He was a teacher, and elementary principal for 39 years. One Year was spent at Deerfield, six at Halstead, and 32 in Garden City. Twenty-three years were as Principal of Alta Brown School in Garden City. His Hobbies were reading and watching sports on T.V. he was an avid sports fan that loved to play golf. He served as secretary of the Men’s Golf League at the Golden Locket. He was a life time member of the Optimist Club. He served as a president and was secretary for 23 years with the local club. Twice he was Lt. Governor for the Southwest Kansas Optimists. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Retired Teachers Association. Funeral Services will be Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Price and Sons Funeral Home at 2:00 P.M. Visitation hours will be on Wednesday September 16, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00-8:00 and from 10:00 A.M. till the service hour at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Finney County Humane Society in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, Kansas.
