Before weight lifting became mainstream (in schools), an old ,Scott City quonset, two story, garage like building(not far from old elementary and junior high school of 1950s) covered with tar paper with light brick design was used as boy scout bldg as well as other activities, including a collection of various size iron discs. Luis was doing dedicated training on his own(later in the News Chronicle bldg). Among others, I was curious about use of barbells when only the comic books advertised their use. Luis kindly interrupted his training schedule and showed me the basics of correct usage of free weights. As a classmate(class of 1961), I now appreciate his teaching as I see younger people now serious about healthy resistance exercise regimens and seniors through age-modified approaches. Luis did not make me a weight lifter but a healthy respect for that approach.
