Robert E. (Bob) Wiles, 61, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 in an accident in Wichita County, Kansas. Bob was born April 3, 1948, in Scott City, Kansas to Earl & Evelyn Shumard Wiles. He grew up on the family farm in Northeast Wichita County. He graduated from Wichita County High School in 1966. He then earned a B.S. degree in Animal Science from Kansas State University in 1970. After graduation from KSU, Bob served in the US Army for eighteen months. He was stationed at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. He returned to Wichita County in 1972, to farm and ranch. On August 19, 1969, Bob married Rita Ann Muret at Winfield, Kansas. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Jennifer Berning and husband, Jerry of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Gwen Wells and husband, Jason, of Leoti, Kansas. He is also survived by his father and stepmother, Earl and Lois Wiles of Leoti, Kansas, his brother, Larry Wiles of Cuba, New Mexico, his sister, Joann Gimple of Emporia, Kansas, as well as five grandchildren, Aubrey, Luke, & Jackson Berning and Paige & Lane Wells. He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Wiles, and his son, Russell Earl Wiles. Bob was a member of Christ Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Leoti, Kansas, where he served as an elder. He was also a member of the K-State Alumni Association, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, served on the USD 467 School Board for twelve years, was a former Farm Bureau board member, a former FmHA board member, and was an FFA State Star Farmer his senior year of high school. Bob's passions were serving the Lord, his family, and riding his horses. Bob and Ann loved to spend time at their ranch in Lane County, where Bob could ride his horse for hours enjoying God's creation. Bob especially loved to teach his grandkids about farming and ranching. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Christ Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Leoti, Kansas with the Rev. Bob Everest presiding. Interment will be in the Leoti Cemetery in Leoti, Kansas. Memorials may be given to Christ Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Leoti, Kansas. The public can sign the register book from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas.
