Dorothy May Wampler, age 91, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the Homestead Health & Rehabilitation Center in Garden City, Kansas. She was born on February 28, 1917 in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of E.O. and Ethel Stout Wampler. Graduating from Garden City High School, Garden City Community College, Emporia State College and Greeley Teachers College, she taught math at Gray County Grade School, and at schools in Manter, KS, Goodland, KS and in Wellington, KS. She ended her 26 year career by teaching 10 years at Dodge City, KS, retiring in 1966.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City, KS. In 1998, she built Dorothy's Children's Library in memory of her parents and often read stories to children during story time. She was an avid quilt maker, sewing them all by hand and she collected sports memorabilia. She also enjoyed playing cards and watching sports, especially baseball.
Survivors Include: Two Nieces, Jan Cahill of Arvada, Colorado and Jo Ellen Tarpley of Phoenix, Arizona; One Nephew , Zeke Wampler of Garden City, KS; Several great nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, John & Clinton; and 2 sisters, Louise Wampler & Martha Morris.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Monday, June 23, 2008 at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas with Rev. David Bell presiding.
Interment will be held in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.
Friends may call from 1:00pm-8:00pm Saturday and Sunday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas.
