Irene E. Turner-Hines, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas. She was born on February 10, 1923 in Russell Springs, Kansas, the oldest daughter of Carl Alfred and Ollie Dey Ferrin.
After graduating from Russell Springs High School, she attended Fort Hays State College. In 1944 she taught at District 34. She then worked at the Russell Springs Court House at the Clerk and County Treasurer Office.
On May 3, 1947 she married Lester Edward Turner in Gove, Kansas. He passed away on January 7, 1992 in Garden City, Kansas. On June 12, 1994 she married James Kenneth Hines at Holdridge, Nebraska.
She lived in Russell Springs until 1950 when she moved to Lakin, Kansas. In 1965 she moved to Scott City, Kansas.
She was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Scott City, Kansas and a member of the United Methodist Church of Scott City, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Glenn Leverne Ferrin, whom was killed in WWII at Nancy, France in 1944.
She is survived by her husband, James Hines of Scott City, a daughter, Jeryl Palkowitsh and husband, Larry of Scott City, Kansas; a step-son, Kenneth Hines and wife Raye of Coldwater, Oklahoma; two step-daughters, Nancy Dickmeyer of Arapaho, Nebraska, and Linda Pearson and husband Steve of Arapaho, Nebraska; a sister Vida Patterson and husband Charles of Lakin, Kansas; two grandsons, Kelley Palkowitsh and wife Heather of Scott City, Kansas; and Greg Palkowitsh and wife Amanda of Alda, Nebraska; one great grandson, Nathaniel; six step-grandchildren; and thirteen step great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Evelyn George of Colby, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be at the United Methodist Church in Scott City, Kansas at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2009 with the Rev. Dennis Carter presiding.
Interment will be the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church or Park Lane Nursing Home % Price & Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas.
