Helen Laverne Swafford, age 84, died Friday, December 22, 2006 at the Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas. She was born October 18, 1922 in Independence, Missouri the daughter of Jasper and Marian Christine Hanson Short. A resident of Garden City since October of 1999 moving from Clearview City, Kansas, she was a homemaker and a public librarian.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City, Kansas.
On September 22, 1946, she married Donald M. Swafford in Independence, Missouri. He died January 15, 1996 in Clearview City, Kansas.
Survivors include: 2 Daughters, Christine Bluml and Ellen Geier both of Garden City, Kansas. 1 Brother, Donald Short of Excelsior Springs, Missouri and 1 Granddaughter, Holly Bluml of Denver, Colorado
She was preceded in death by her husband, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, a daughter â Linda Swafford and a grandson â Casey Gillespie.
Memorial Services will be held at 4:00pm on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006 at the Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas with Rev. Marian Heisey presiding.
Inurnment will be held in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.
Additional services will be held in Excelsior Springs, Missouri at a later date.
There will be no calling times.
Memorials may be given to the Garden Valley Retirement Village in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
