Lilia LaRee Shearmire, age 76, died Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Homestead Health & Rehabilitation Center in Garden City, Kansas. She was born on February 1, 1932 in Scott County, KS, the daughter of Ira Prosper & Julia Lenihan Minnix. A resident of Garden City since 1955 moving from Scott City, Kansas she had been owner & operator with her husband, and was an intregal part of Garden Bowl, Garden Mimeo, Garden Skate, Hard Rock Lanes & Tumbleweed Turf and was an English as Second Language teacher. She was a member of the Church Of The Brethren of Garden City where she was the first woman moderator of the Garden City Church of The Brethren, the Menninger Bible Study teacher for 28 years, and a Sunday School teacher for 38 years. She had also held many offices in the State Bowling Proprietor Association and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2004. She was a member of the Women's Chamber. Lilia enjoyed playing bridge, piano and organ, travel which included 21 countries, drama with local groups, signing, photography, cross stitch & geneology. She was a collector of crystal, elephants, coins & stamps, and loved being with her family. On June 5, 1949, she married Ray Shearmire at Friend, Kansas. He survives. Other Survivors Include: One Son, Gregg Shearmire of Garden City, Kansas; Two Daughters, Linda Owen of Garden City, Kansas and Susan Stout of Garden City, Kansas; One Sister, Wilda Werner of Atwood, Kansas; Twelve Grandchildren and Twelve Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Berl Minnix. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, September 19, 2008 at the Church Of The Brethren in Garden City with Pastor John Elder presiding. Friends may call from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm on Thursday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City. Interment will be held in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas. The family requests memorials be given to the ALS (Lou Gehrig's) Association or to the church, both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
