Garden City, Kansas Ernest G. Proudfit, age 93, died Friday, December 21, 2007 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born January 24, 1914 in Jonesboro, Arkansas the son of Robert Lawrence and Lillie May Whiteside Proudfit. A resident of Garden City since 1946 moving from Emporia, Kansas, he had been the Assistant Manager of JCPenney's for 10 years, Office Manager of ASC office for 10 years, and Softgoods Dept. Head of Gibsons for over 22 years.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City where he was active in the church choir. He was a member of the Senior Center, serving meals and driving the Meal van to Scott City for 10 years, and the Kiwanis Sunrisers where he held a 31 year perfect attendence record.
On September 21, 1940 he married Alma Pressgrove at Topeka, Kansas. She survives. Other Survivors Include: Three Daughters, Ann Crans of Plano, Texas Marilyn Proudfit of Garden City, Kansas Janet Porter of Newton, Kansas Two Sisters, Jewel Spiker of Topeka, Kansas Lilah Strube of Hiawatha, Kansas and 5 Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by a son, Bob Proudfit, a brother, Bill Proudfit & a sister, Louise Bickett.
Memorial Services will be held at 4:00pm on Sunday, December 23, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City, Kansas with the Rev. David Bell presiding.
Private Family Burial was held in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas
There will be no public visitation.
The family requests memorials be given to the First United Methodist Church Choir or the Kiwanis Children's B.U.G. Program in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home.
