GARDEN CITY, KANSAS JOHN HOWARD HAWK, AGE 84, DIED FRIDAY, JANUARY 27, 2006 AT ST. CATHERINE HOSPITAL IN GARDEN CITY, KANSAS. HE WAS BORN NOVEMBER 16, 1921 IN GARDEN CITY, THE SON OF HUGH & PLUMA TREMAIN HAWK. A LIFETIME RESIDENT OF GARDEN CITY HE WAS A FARMER, RETIRING IN 1986. HE WAS A SPORTS FAN, AVID GOLFER AND SNOOKER PLAYER. HE WAS A WWII ARMY AIR CORPS VETERAN, SERVING AS STAFF SERGEANT AND WAS A TAILGUNNER ON A B-24, WHICH WAS SHOT DOWN OVER AUSTRIA. HE WAS CAPTURED ON JUNE 9, 1944 AND WAS A P.O.W. AT STALAG LUFT 3, SOUTH OF BERLIN. LATER, HE WAS MARCHED TO MUNICH, GERMANY BECAUSE RUSSIANS WERE ADVANCING. HE WAS RELEASED FROM THE P.O.W. CAMP ON APRIL 29, 1945. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, THE HARRY H. RENICK AMERICAN LEGION POST #9, THE ELKS LODGE AND THE FINNEY COUNTY SENIOR CENTER, ALL OF GARDEN CITY. HE ALSO BELONGED TO THE X.P.O.W. ON NOVEMBER 3, 1950, HE MARRIED MARILYN CONCANNON @ TUCUMCARI NEW MEXICO. SHE SURVIVES. OTHER SURVIVORS INCLUDE: 2 DAUGHTERS; JUDY GEMES OF LEES SUMMIT, MISSOURI AND DEBRA VILLARREAL OF DALLAS, TEXAS. 1 SISTER; EMMA LEAH LaGESSE OF GARDEN CITY, KANSAS. 2 GRANDSONS; TONY HAWK OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS AND JEREMY VILLARREAL OF DALLAS, TEXAS AND 1 GRANDDAUGHTER; JESSICA VILLARREAL OF DALLAS, TEXAS FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD @ 2:00PM ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 31, 2006 @ THE PRICE & SONS FUNERAL HOME IN GARDEN CITY, KS WITH THE REV. ROBERT D. COUSINS OFFICIATING. FRIENDS MAY CALL FROM 10AM-8PM MONDAY AND 10AM UNTIL SERVICE TIME TUESDAY @ PRICE & SONS FUNERAL HOME IN GARDEN CITY. INTERMENT WILL BE IN THE VALLEY VIEW CEMETERY - GARDEN CITY WITH MILITARY GRAVESIDE RITES BEING CONDUCTED BY THE GARDEN CITY AREA VETERANS HONOR GUARD.
