Robert Dale Harper of Scott City, KS, died Saturday, November 17, 2007, at the Scott County Hospital. He was 88. The son of Louis and Eunice (Wilson) Harper, he was born August 25, 1919, in Tescott, KS. He grew up on a farm in Logan County while his father was helping to build US Highway 40. He attended country grade school and Monument High School in Monument, KS, before moving to Scott City in 1937. He graduated from Scott Community High School in 1938. On March 2, 1941, he was united in marriage to Margaret Lue Chamberlain in Scott City. She survives at the home. In October of 1943, Dale joined the US Army and later served with the 790th Engineer Petroleum Distribution Company in Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland before receiving his honorable discharge in 1946 as a Tech Sergeant. After returning to Scott City after the war, he was eventually hired on at the Shallow Water Refinery and worked there until it closed in the early 1970's. While employed by the refinery, Dale rose to the position of assistant plant manager. In the late 1950's, Dale was one of a group of fathers who organized the Little League program in Scott City and was one of the programs original coaches. He was also a supporter of the SCHS band program, serving as president of the Band Boosters Organization. He and Margie were charter members of the Community Christian Church where he served as greeter in his later years. Baird Neodesha, Kansas Chanda Grogan Wichita, Kansas Seven Step Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his Parents, Three Brothers â Wilburn, Harold and Roy and Two Sisters â Nellie and Hazel and one Daughter In Law â Deena Harper. Funeral Services will be held at the Community Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 23, 2007. Officiating will be Rev. Troy Schroeder. Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas. Memorials are to the Community Christian Church % Price & Sons Funeral Home Visitation 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
