Obituary of Willard Foos

Willard Eugene Foos, Healy and Webb City, Mo., passed away Sunday at Regency Hospital in Fayetteville, Ark., where he was recovering from complications that followed a heart attack on Feb. 17. He was 80. Mr. Foos was born on Aug. 5, 1925, in Bazine, Kan. to Jake and Bertha Rein Foos. He spent his teen years on the eastern edge of Denver and was drafted prior to his senior year in high school. He served in Italy with the 10th Mountain Division and was decorated with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. At the end of the war, he rejoined his family on a farm they had purchased near Healy. He became the postmaster and then a rural mail carrier in Healy, while farming. He retired after 30 years with the post office in 1980 and partially moved to Webb City. He returned to Healy each spring because he never retired from farming wheat. He enjoyed membership in the American Legion and VFW in Kansas and Missouri. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of Healy United Methodist Church and attended Central United Methodist Church, Webb City. He married Anne Snider Foos on Aug. 21, 1949, in Council Grove, Kan., and she survives at the Webb City home. Also surviving are a son, Bob Foos and his wife Ann, Webb City; a daughter, Glenda Foos, Webb City; three grandchildren, Sonya Neece, Tulsa, Okla., Jake Foos, Overland Park, Kan., and Thomas Stark, Webb City; two great-granddaughters; a sister, Betty Sharp, Colorado Springs, Colo; a niece, Brenda Sharp, Colorado Springs; and a nephew, Jerry Sharp, Healy. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Foos and Glen Foos; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Sharp. A masonic service and visitation will be held Wednesday at Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home, Webb City. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Healy United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Healy Cemetery under the direction of Price and Sons Funeral Home, Scott City, Kan. Memorial contributions may be made to Healy United Methodist Church, Healy, Kan. 67850.
