Harold Berend, age 91, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Harold was born on July 2, 1930, in Archer City, Texas to Anton and Eleanor Wachsman Berend. Harold was a farmer, rancher, and postmaster throughout his life. He had been a resident of Marienthal since 1954 having moved from Windthorst, Texas. He was a member of St. Mary Church of Marienthal where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a 4-H leader for 13 years. He was the girls' softball coach for the Knights of Columbus summer league and a Wichita County Amusement Association Volunteer.
Harold married Edith Luebbers on August 1, 1955, in Marienthal, Kansas. She passed away on April 21, 2014.
Survivors include his children: Janet & Arturo Pacheco of Garland, Texas, Deanna & Charlie Fraley of Dighton, Kansas, Linda & Joe Becker of Hays, Kansas, Mike Berend of Leoti, Kansas, Rita & Simon Bartel of Garden City, Kansas, Carol & Daren Ruth of Johnson, Kansas, Gina & Jimmy Perkins of Melissa, Texas; his siblings, James Berend of Windthorst, Texas, Margaret Schroeder of Windthorst, Texas, Anton Berend of Oklahoma, Martin Berend of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Eleanor Pechacek of Las Vegas, Nevada, George Wray of San Antonio, Texas; eighteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, Manuel Berend, Emery Berend, Jerome Berend, two sisters Mildred Pennartz, Alma Pennartz, and one infant son, Gordon Berend.
The funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022, at St. Mary Church in Marienthal, Kansas at 10:30 a.m. with Father Benjamin Martin Presiding.
Vigil service will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at St. Mary Church in Marienthal, Kansas at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will be at Price and Sons funeral home in Leoti, Kansas at Fourth and J, on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and on Thursday, April 21, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Memorials may be written to the Wichita County Amusement Association or the Leoti EMS in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home.
