Obituary of Marguerite Berning

Marguerite Berning, age 90, passed away on April 1, 2022, at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas.  Marguerite was born May 4, 1931, at the Biel Family homestead near Marienthal, Kansas, the daughter of Albert B. and Ida (Kreutzer) Biel, Sr.  A lifetime resident of Wichita County, Kansas, Marguerite lived and loved her life as a farmwife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.

Marguerite was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas, and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and Altar Society.  Her lifetime love of music found an outlet in being an organist for her church.

On November 21, 1951, Marguerite married her love Eugene Berning at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas.  He passed away on December 5, 2015.

Marguerite’s surviving family includes – Five children – Duane and Leta Berning- Leoti, Kansas, Larry and Debbie Berning- Sussex, Wisconsin, Gary Berning- Lakin, Kansas, Mark Berning- Leoti, Kansas, Suzanne Nix- Beaumont, Texas, Twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, Her brother, Eugene and Billie Biel and sister, Kathryn Berning, both of Leoti, Kansas.  One sister-in-law, Johanna Biel of Scott City, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter-in-law, Ramona Berning, one son-in-law, Charles Nix, one sister, Doris Mayer, and brothers James Biel and Albert Biel, Jr., two brothers-in-law Edwin Berning and Charles Mayer and sisters-in-law,  Judy Biel and Bennie Biel.

Vigil Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas with Fr. Tim Hickey presiding.  Services will be live-streamed on the Western Kansas Catholic Facebook page.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, 4th & J Street, Leoti, Kansas.

Interment will be in the St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery in Marienthal, Kansas.
