Thank you, Dave, for your kind words about my parents. Your dad was my horse project leader in 4-H. You probably remember those gatherings. He was so good to me and taught me many things about my little feedlot mare, Gin. He worked with us on reining patterns, which is what I loved. We weren’t that good, but my memories of those times are precious. He also introduced me to the first stallion I had ever been around. Over at your place. That was so impressive to me. I was horse crazy and your dad sure helped a little girl who had no family that really knew horses. God bless you and yours in your loss of a good man. Marian

Our relationship with Lee spans a time of over 45 years. Through those years we shared numerous events, celebrations, occasions and had many conversations. As we think on Lee in this moment we take notice of his grin and the twinkle in his eye, as we also speak of his mischief and his onryness. We will remember too his generosity and the solidarity of his friendship. Lee was an icon among cowboys too, wasn't he? How many of you cowboys out there can say you learned some cowboy ways and manners from Lee. There are still some little cowboys and cowgirls comin' up. Mention his name and share a story when you have a training moment with them. We offer our condolences to family and friends as we realize the gravity of your loss. It is a comfort to believe that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Sincerely. Tom and Carolyn West

First let me say that Lee had a big impact on me as a young man. The short time I worked with him was full of belly laughs and lessons. I was a 15 year old punk at the time and he was some kind of OG cowboy that I’d never met before. He taught me how to work cattle but most importantly I learned a lot about earning respect. One lesson I learned was to never knock a cowboys hat off his head. That ended with me in some kind of painful chicken wing move before his hat even hit the ground! Fortunately, I’m a fast learner. His listening skills would draw out the truth, his voice captured your attention and his demeanor demanded respect. Oh, and I guess his jokes were pretty alright too.
I'm honored to have known him.
Wishing all of you peace in this difficult time.

Oh Leland,
This world just won't be the same without you in it. A cold Keystone Light on a hot day and a nip of McGillicuddy's on a cold one will always be in memory of you. I'll miss that ornery twinkle in your eye and your big hugs. I am so thankful for all of the memories throughout my life with you in them. Thank you for always loving me despite my downfalls. I sure wish I'd have paid more attention to the wisdom you shared. I'll forever miss you Cowboy, and you'll always be the Top Hand.
