I miss my cousin and my heart is broken for his children, grandchildren, his parents and Michelle. Derrick struggled with some things in life but he was a good person with a kind and loving heart. Derrick and I did not see each other often but we were blood and whenever we did it was like no time had passed in between. Derrick was always kind and giving to me and my family and did things for us, kind things that no one else knew about. He helped me with caring for my mom more than once and asked nothing in return. I have many memories, some not appropriate to share but that was Derrick too and those memories are ours. I went to the grocery store yesterday, where we use to run into each other occasionally, and realized with great sadness that I never will again! I love you cuz and I miss you!

I remember when I first meet Derreck in high school. I didn’t connect well with others due to my tough childhood but we hit it off and was very close friends for the last 35 years. I don’t have any pictures with me (I’m in Arizona this week) but can describe a photo from 1989 when the NHRA first raced in Topeka. We are big fans and drove out on a Saturday and ended up sleeping in the car . Derreck got so sick from the Nitro in the pits he just passed out finally because we couldn’t find a place to stay. The next morning we got a picture of the two of us in front of a mocked up starting line and we looked rung out. It was a great time but we would have a lot of photos as he took like 6 rolls of film. Unfortunately he didn’t really understand how to properly put the film in his Dads camera and didn’t even get one exposure. We laughed for a long time about that but were very happy we paid for that one photo as it’s the only proof we have that we were there that weekend. God bless you my friend I look forward to seeing you in the future!
My condolences to the family!

Gonna miss my cousin! The thing I remember most of him was his joking, laughing and having fun! My thoughts are prayers are lifted for all at this difficult time and in the days ahead. Although we (my family) are apart from you all there at his celebration of life....we are with you in spirit and grieve with you.
