Larry was a really nice guy and a solid thinker during his many years of involvement in KLA. During his time as chairman of the Kansas Beef Council he exhibited dependable and thoughtful leadership. We need more men like Larry and although he will be missed, we are fortunate he raised some fine boys to continue in his style! Dee Likes

I met Larry Huck in Cheyenne, Wyoming after an Easter morning service where I was ushering. I greeted Mr. Huck and wished him a blessed Easter day. Mr. Huck said to me do you know who I am? I said no sir I do not know who you are. Mr. Huck said "I am the father of Galen Huck the Pastor of Cheyenne Hills Church." I said I am happy to meet you, your son is an amazing pastor and I went onto share my story of being led out of darkness into a relationship with Jesus Christ, by Pastor Galen Huck.
A little smile came on Mr. Huck's face. He began to tell me the story of how his son made a choice to follow Jesus. Mr. Huck said when Galen was a boy he would notice that every time he got into the tractor after Galen had been working in the fields with the tractor the radio station was always on a Christian radio station. He said I wondered why Galen always listened to a Christian radio station.
Mr. Huck then shared the story of the day when Galen told him he was going to school to become a minister. He said, I was stunned and not to happy, because Galen had graduated from college with an agriculture degree. Mr. Huck said Galen had an opportunity to make one hundred thousand dollars a year running a feedlot. Mr. Huck said when I questioned Galen about his decision to go to seminary he said Galen said " Dad it is more important to me to see a hundred thousand people give their lives to Jesus than to make a hundred thousand dollars a year managing a feed lot." Mr. Huck said I was shocked and not to pleased about Galen's decision, but I knew I had to release him to follow what he felt was God's will for his life.
I assured Mr. Huck that Pastor Galen was a great teacher and minister.
I am the daughter and granddaughter of Wyoming sheep ranchers. We talked about ranching and farming until Mrs. Huck came and joined our conversation and then Mr. Huck left and Mrs. Huck and I visited for a short time.
Mr. Huck was an amazing man and very proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The last time I saw him at Cheyenne Hills Church in Cheyenne he said rather excitedly we have two great grandchildren. I congratulated him on the birth of his great grandson Theo. He seemed vey pleased.
My condolences to Mr. Huck's wife, Gwen children and grandchildren. May God touch your lives with His love and peace.

I most remember Coach Huck as head football coach for the Scott City Beavers. He was very inspirational. No one gave a half time speech like Coach Huck. I remember one season we were playing Thomas More Prep at Hays. I think it was my senior season. We trailed 21 to 0 at halftime. Coach Huck read us the riot act at half time. We rallied and won the game 22 to 21. I was forunate to catch the 2 point conversion for the go ahead points. Ill never forget that play nor the "encouragement" we got from coach Huck at half time. RIP coach. You were one of the good ones. Garrett Scott

We are very sorry to hear of the passing of Larry.
He was a great mentor to many of us, in many areas. I didn’t know him as a high school teacher, but it makes sense because he taught many of us as we interacted with him. Among his teaching activities, we remember him as a 4-H project leader, 4-H Club leader with Gwen, on the Carpenter Board, and the Extension Council. Also, he was a teacher about beef cattle and beef industry in local organizations and beyond.
I always enjoyed riding with him to look at calves and working with him and his cow herd. I remember one occasion when it started to rain as we were finishing processing cows. We completed the task, put the cows in pastures and were picking up tools we had used. He looked at me, smiled as said, “You know you’re wet when you bend over and it wrings water out of your jacket and jeans.”
He will be missed. May God comfort and bless each of you.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the Huck family in their loss.
Over the years being around Larry at livestock shows, Beef Empire Days and cattle operations I was always amazed at the skill Larry had to correctly evaluate livestock. He was always positive with his comments and had a great sense of humor even if he was in a tight situation. He was someone I always admired and someone I tried to be more like in the way I acted because I thought he handled people and situations the right way.
Larry had a positive impact on countless people during his lifetime and will always be fondly remembered.

Larry was my algebra teacher, as well as being my cousin, and so I often was the brunt of his dry jokes. I had algebra 2nd hour, right after marching band and was often late as were most of us coming from marching outside then having to redo our hair and make-up. Larry, thankfully, understood and let the tardies slide, knowing we often did not have enough time to clean up and get to 2nd hour class on time. One morning I rushed into class, late again, and he told me to go get a tardy slip from the office. Being very familiar with his humor, I just sat down and laughed. He told me to go to the office again and I laughed at him again. This time he very sternly told me he wasn’t joking and had just sent another student to the office for being late and I had to go as well. Mortified, I left for the office, not laughing!

Gwen and the Huck Family,
It has been a pleasure and an honor for our family to have known Larry for the past 25 years on a business and personal level. The song, "Always be Humble and Kind" could not fit Larry any better. We will always remember the times around our kitchen table when the business was done, eating coffee cake and discussing everything from family, to the price of cattle, football, and lack of rain. We had so much fun going to the football game with him and Gwen. Even though Scott City lost and he was "miffed" we still stopped and ate pancakes at IHOP. Larry as you move on to where the pastures are greener, the cattle prices are always good, the crops are always bountiful, and Beavers and the Cats always win, rest easy knowing that we will shut the gate for you.
Wolf Family,
Dwayne

Larry was an encourager. He loved Jesus and had insight into the Holy Scriptures. These qualities made him one of the best men I’ve ever known. He will not be forgotten. I’m feel privileged to have known Larry. When we first met we laughed that he was a coach with a daughter named Suzanne and that I was a daughter of a coach. I grieve with Gwen and family. However, I celebrate that he is with God and renewing old friendships. Hugs to Gwen, Suzanne McCandless

My heart is heavy for the loss of Larry. My condolences to His lovely wife Gwen and family. He had a very special soul. I have so many memories of him and my dad working together on the ranch. Stories of adventures I would never have experienced otherwise. Very great full and blessed am I that I grew up on that ranch. Cattle roundups, planting time, harvests, 4-H events all things that were under Larry Huck’s direction. Special moments like Pepsi and snicker bars, Larry showing up to show us a few grooming tips on our steers the night before fair time.Showing up one afternoon when my dad was out of town to help me with a very crazy cow having a calf... first time I heard the man say a really bad word out loud.
I thought a lot of Larry. He was a mentor to many kids including me. Encouraged me to do well in school and shared with me livestock judging tips. I really enjoyed the livestock judging events at the ranch.
The last few times I visited with him we would tell each other not to make the other cry. We cried anyway because of many memories with my dad. RIP, Larry, I hope you and Dad have met on the trail to go check the cattle and fences again.

I always enjoyed seeing Mr. Huck at football practice, games & chatting about football. He & I were definitely the first ones at the field on game day. So glad we have the assurance of seeing him again because of Christ. My love to your family
