Dan Nickelson, age 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at the Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kanas. He was born on April 15, 1937 on the family farm in rural Graham County, the Son of George and Emma Nickelson. Dan attended Leland grade school and graduated from Morland high school in Morland, Kansas in 1956. He enlisted in the Army, serving from 1956-1959 primarily in Germany. He received commendations from Army corp of Engineers and earned the rank of E5 Sargent. Upon leaving the service, he moved to Wichita County, Kansas where he started farming and ranching in Wichita County. On October 15, 1966 in Tribune, Kansas, Dan met & married the love of his life, Twilla Clark. They settled in Wichita County, Kansas living north of Leoti until buying the current farm in south east Wichita County, Kansas. He had four children; Mike, Allen, Teresa, and Karen. He will be remembered for his faith, family, and farming, but also his life accomplishments including founding and serving as president of the Wichita County Amusement Association. All the kids would remember him as the tilt-a-whirl guy who was always smiling and laughing. He served eight years as the Wichita County Commissioner of district 2 (2001-2009). Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Twilla, sons Mike and Diane Nickelson of Leoti, Allen and Kim Nickelson of Penokee Kansas, daughters Teresa and Kevin Clark of Leoti, Karen and Richard Carr of Junction City, Kansas, Grandchildren; Ashley (Travis) Geyer, Kelsie Diver, Dallas Pryor, MaKenna Clark, Samantha Nickelson, Bryce Nickelson, Kiersten (Brenden) Hamit, Allison Nickelson, Jacob Clark, Joshua Clark, Wyatt Pryor, Abigail Nickelson, Zim Clark, Great grandchildren; Kyra, Quinton, Paxten, Emily, Logan, and Bryson, Lottie & Bob McLemore (Sister) Colby, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emma Nickelson, his sister, Eleanor Legere, his brother, Orville Nickelson and one grandson, Blake Nickelson Services will be held on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. and the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas with Rev. Tod Anthony and Terry Laws presiding. Funeral services will be live-streamed at: www.facebook.com/priceandson Burial will be in the Leoti Cemetery in Leoti, Kansas Memorials in Lieu of Flowers can be made to the Wichita County Amusement Association in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday.
