Obituary of Harold White

Lakin, Kansas Harold Ernest White, age 88, died at the Homestead Assisted Living in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on February 9, 1932 in Lakin, Kansas, the son of Earnest & Elizabeth Smartt White. After graduating from Lakin High School, Harold, attended Kansas State University for a semester before joining the United States Army. He worked as a farmer and rancher after returning from the Korean Conflict serving as a Corporal in the United States Army 2nd infantry. He enjoyed flying his airplanes for recreation, and hunting for arrowheads and other artifacts, and collecting antiques with his late wife during their travels.  He was also known to be inventive, and was an amateur engineer who designed and built his own airport hangar, as well as buildings around the farm.  The White family farm is still using some equipment that Harold designed and built.  He also served on the Kearny County Farm Bureau Board of Directors as the board president.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church serving as a deacon. On July 11, 1954, he married Thelma F. Stout in Lakin Kansas. She preceded him in death on April 19, 2016. Survivors include: Two sons William White of Lakin, Kansas David and wife Kathy White of Lakin, Kansas Two grandsons Tim White of Lakin, Kansas Adam White of Lakin, Kansas seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, one sister, Maxine Campbell. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 12, 2020 from 10-2 at Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City and from 4-8 at the Lakin Presbyterian Church in Lakin, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakin, Kansas on Friday, November 13, 2020 at 10:30 am. Interment will be at the Lakin Cemetery in Lakin, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to the Homestead Assisted Living, Alzheimers Association, or the First Presbyterian Church in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St. Garden City, Kansas 67846. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that everyone in attendance wear a mask and practice social distancing. Funeral services will be live streamed on the funeral homes Facebook page.
