Mrs. Mitchell became my Kansan "mom" of sorts almost 20 years ago. They were wonderful hosts when I visited their charming town of Scott City over 15 years ago and along with many photo memories, I still have the corn kernels from the local feedlot we visited. Along with her husband, Mr. Mitchell, they provided much warmth and sincere care and support for me and my endeavors and struggles by listening and providing advice and counsel where they felt they could be of help. Her no-nonsense disposition and sensibility belied a compassionate and caring woman who placed her family and loved ones before herself. Her very strength of character is not surprising to those who knew her. My heart grieves deeply for the loss of my friend and the great loss to her family. I know she's happy to be with "her Mitch" again, perhaps bickering over some bridge trick strategy or enjoying ice cream out of a cantaloupe. I'll miss you Mrs. Mitchell. My heartfelt condolences to all of her family and loved ones.
