Velma L Corder was born February 3, 1921, to Cliff and Ethel Granger in Manning, Kansas. She passed away on August 9, 2020, at Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott City, Kansas.
Velma moved to Wichita County early in her childhood to a farm along Beaver creek. She attended a nearby country school. She moved to Scott City and lived with her aunt in order to attend high school. She graduated in 1940 and worked at the original hospital in Scott City until moving to Kansas City, Missouri in 1942. Velma was a messenger for an optical company for almost twenty years. She later worked in a nearby cafeteria until retirement.
After retiring she moved back to Scott City, KS where she resided until her death. Velma enjoyed socializing with coffee in the mornings and ballroom dancing in the evenings. Velma loved to “get out of town” and travel anywhere to do different things, even if it was just for a day. She was gifted musically and could play the piano by ear. She belonged to East Gate Chapter 367 Order of the Eastern Star. She attended the Budd Park Christian Church in Kansas City. Velma married Bill Corder in 1956 and later divorced.
Preceding her in death were her parents, sisters Fern and Gladys Granger, and her twin sister Thelma Rudolph.
She is survived by a nephew, W. Lee and Diane Rudolph of Olathe, Ks, and his children Shari and Scott Gamble of Marion, IL, and John Rudolph of Paducah, KY. A niece Glenda and Richard Randall, Scott City, Ks, and their children Tyson and Cris Randall of Cummings, GA and Shelley and Jason Phelps of Ulysses, Ks.
A private family graveside service will be at the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas with Steve Payne presiding.
There are no visitation times.
