ALFRED EUGENE DROSTE, AGE 73, PASSED AWAY ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 29, 2008 AT PLUM CREEK SPECIALTY HOSPITAL IN AMARILLO, TEXAS. HE WAS BORN AUGUST 9, 1934 AT SPEARVILLE, KANSAS, THE SON OF ALBERT & ELIZABETH TORLINE DROSTE. A RESIDENT OF LEOTI, KANSAS SINCE 1962, MR. DROSTE WAS EMPLOYED BY THE SUNFLOWER TELEPHONE COMPANY FOR 32 YEARS UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT IN 1994. HE GREW UP ON THE FAMILY HOMESTEAD SOUTHEAST OF SPEARVILLE, KANSAS AND GRADUATED FROM SPEARVILLE HIGH SCHOOL IN 1952. HE WAS STATIONED IN FRANCE DURING HIS SERVICE TO THE UNITED STATES ARMY FROM 1956 THROUGH 1958. MR. DROSTE WAS A MEMBER OF ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA CATHOLIC CHURCH IN LEOTI, KANSAS. HE WAS ALSO A FORMER LEOTI CITY COUNCILMAN AND MEMBER OF THE ROADRUNNERS AND RETREADS MOTORCYCLE CLUBS. HE ENJOYED TRAVELING THE COUNTRY IN HIS R.V, WATCHING THE STOCK MARKETS AND HAVING COFFEE WITH HIS FRIENDS. ON OCTOBER 1, 1960 HE MARRIED JANET KAY BAEHLER AT SHARON SPRINGS, KANSAS. SHE SURVIVES. OTHER SURVIVORS INCLUDE- ONE DAUGHTER AND HER HUSBAND- SHARLA & ALAN KRENZEL- LEOTI, KANSAS TWO SONS AND THEIR WIVES- BRUCE & AMY DROSTE- WESTMINSTER, COLORADO DALE & APRIL DROSTE- LAKE JACKSON, TEXAS SIX GRANDCHILDREN- DAYNA KRENZEL- ROUND ROCK, TEXAS DEVON KRENZEL- MANHATTAN, KANSAS BENJAMIN DROSTE- WESTMINSTER, COLORADO LUCAS DROSTE- WESTMINSTER, COLORADO CAMERON DROSTE- LAKE JACKSON, TEXAS CASSIDY DROSTE- LAKE JACKSON, TEXAS SIX BROTHERS- LEONARD DROSTE- SPEARVILLE, KANSAS MELVIN DROSTE- DODGE CITYY, KANSAS GERALD (JERRY) DROSTE- FORD, KANSAS ARTHUR DROSTE- GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA CARL DROSTE- CIMARRON, KANSAS PAUL (PETE) DROSTE- WICHITA, KANSAS FOUR SISTERS- ZITA SCHRINER- DODGE CITY, KANSAS LOIS BAILEY- DODGE CITY, KANSAS JANET SLATTERY- DODGE CITY, KANSAS JEAN SPROTT- DODGE CITY, KANSAS HE WAS PRECEED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS, AN INFANT SISTER AND A BROTHER, LLOYD DROSTE. VIGIL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 7:00 P.M. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2008 AT ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA CATHOLIC CHURCH IN LEOTI, KANSAS. FUNERAL MASS WILL BE HELD AT 10:30 A.M. SATURDAY AT THE CHURCH WITH FATHERS BENJAMIN MARTIN AND WARREN STOECKLEIN OFFICIATING. GRAVESIDE SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 3:00 P.M. AT WINONA CEMETERY IN WINONA, KANSAS. FRIENDS MAY CALL FROM NOON TO 8:00 THURSDAY AND FROM 10:00 TO 5:00 FRIDAY AT PRICE & SONS FUNERAL HOME IN LEOTI, KANSAS. MEMORIALS MAY BE GIVEN TO THE WICHITA COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION IN CARE OF THE FUNERAL HOME.
