Marienthal, Kansas James D. Simons, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas. Jim was born May 2, 1938 in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Louis B. & Ida (Wewer) Simons. A lifetime resident of Wichita County, he was a farmer and rancher. Jim served his country in the United States Marine Corp from 1957 through 1959. Jim was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas as well as the Knights of Columbus and had served on the Wichita County Soil Conservation board for nine years. On November 22, 1986 he married Lillian N. Boulware at Las Vegas, Nevada. Lillian passed away on March 1, 2011 in Scott City, Kansas. Jim’s surviving family includes five children- Curtis Simons of Emporia, Kansas, Randy Simons of Allen, Texas, Debra Aldridge of McAlester, Oklahoma, Wayne Simons of McAllister, Montana and Shawn Simons of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Three stepchildren- Kerri Chavez of New Mexico, Lance Webster of Scott City, Kansas and Lesha Webster of Stafford, Kansas. Four siblings including Ron Simons of Stockton, Kansas, Donald Simons of Hays, Kansas, John Simons of Marienthal, Kansas and Geraldine Mazanec of Marienthal, Kansas. Eight grandchildren Four great grandchildren and ten step grandchildren. His parents, a brother, Robert Simons and stepson, J.W. Webster precede him in death. Vigil services will be held at 7:00 pm, Friday, March 13, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday , March 14, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Tim Hickey officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas with Military honors provided by the United States Marine Corp Funeral Detail.
