I married into the most amazing family and included in that family was Luella. Little did I know that when I married Quin, I would also get a wonderful pen pal. When I had my son Burton, I was lucky to be a stay at home mom and had some extra time on my hands when he was a baby (that changes as they get older). I would send monthly cards to Luella and we would often get letters back. It was really special to share the first year of my sons life that closely with someone so many miles away.
Luella always remembered our birthdays and we always knew we would get at least one Christmas card each year. Even if we weren't on the ball to get ours out.
It was such a honor and joy to finally meet this amazing lady (and the rest of the Kansas crew) at my sister in-laws, Carmen, wedding. She had the warmest heart and it was truly special to finally give her a hug.
Even though that was the only time we met and as a busy mom, the letters were fewer, I thought of Luella often.
We are all blessed to have had such a special lady as a part of our lives. Big hugs to all her friends, family, loved ones.
Memories last forever in the heart.
Sincerely,
Quin, Shauna, and Burton Jones

Our Aunt Luella and her children were the only extended family my children knew from their paternal grandmother, Erma Bowman Jones, Aunt Luella's older sister. Although separated by many miles, (we live in NW Washington state), she made and mailed hand made gifts to each of our children at their birth and throughout the years. (We will especially miss her yearly Christmas cards with the correspondence to keep us informed abut her family!)
In 2015, at our daughter's wedding, we finally met her and several cousins. It was a wonderful surprise and she helped to fill the void left by Grandma Jones' death three months earlier. This visit was short and given the demands of an outdoors wedding, we did not have the hours we would have liked to spend with her but were still very grateful to have had the opportunity to be with her, even if for a short time,
Now she has left this world and we will cherish our memories of her forever. To know that she no longer suffers, to believe that she is now with her creator and among those she loved who passed before her, should lift our spirits and ease our heartache.
I once read: "In Life we weep at the thought of Death, but who knows? Perhaps in Death, we will weep at the thought of Life".
Her Washington family: Stan and Naomi Jones, Quin, Shauna and Burton Jones, Carmen, Galen and Eastan Cobbs, and Kiefer, Jeannie and Mia Jones.

In 2015, I mailed a wedding invitation to my dear Great Aunt Luella & family in Kansas....whom I had only ever seen pictures of but never met. (We live in Washington State.) We were stunned when an RSVP came back not only with Luella's RSVP but for a whole Kansas family crew! We figured Great Aunt Luella must've marked the wrong box...that there was no way that my 86 year old great aunt would actually journey all the way to Washington State for our wedding. Low and behold...Great Aunt Luella and Kansas party of six all blessed us with their presence at our wedding...a day that was already blessed with so much joy and which transformed into so much more of a grand memory for my family and me...a day I will never forget...the day I met my only surviving great relative!! Having Luella at our wedding helped fill the void of the absence of my grandma, Luellea's sister, Erma Jones, who passed away 3 months prior. They were spitting images of each other and I was taken back when I saw her in person. What an unfogettable day it was!!
At my grandma Erma's memorial, I read the following poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye, and here I share it with you all as your Washington family will be in Kansas with you all in spirit tomorrow and always ~
Do not Stand At My Grave And Weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I did not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.
Mary Elizabeth Frye
My son Eastan was blessed to have had a great great aunt...who at 89 years old, made him the most beautiful quilt when he was born...a treasure from Luella that will last a lifetime! She was one of a kind and I'm so thankful that I got to know her! Our hearts will always be with her and the rest of our Kansas family!
All our love,
Your Washington Family,
Carmen, Galen & Eastan Cobbs
