Please accept my deepest condolences!
I lived in Garden in the 80’s! My friend Mary Ortega introduces me to Ernie and the ORTIZ family! I have very fond memories eating at the restaurant and going to various family functions! He was a very kind man with a great sense of humor!! My prayers to you all again !
Always, Gloria, Toby and Isaac Martinez.

There have been many special memories throughout my life with Ernie, but this past Friday, September 6, 2019 my husband and I had a nice conversation with him while having lunch at El Conquistador. I also spoke with him on the phone after leaving the restaurant in regards to music and hookups for computer my son would be using for my daughters wedding which he would be playing for on Saturday. The most Blessed and shared memory we will cherish forever is Saturday, September 7, 2019, hearing him sing and him play with the Ortiz Band, which who knew would be the last time. They played and he sang beautiful! He said “it’s been awhile since he’s seen a crowd like that”. I’m glad his heart was happy and he was pleased. He will be missed but never forgotten!! Ernie, Go spread your wings and Sing for all our loved ones in Heaven, Heaven will now Rock! May the Perpetual Light Shine Upon You. Your laugh will be missed. Our Prayers continue for all of you.

For the family, we are sorry for your loss. Ernie was alway kind, cheerful, and giving. We were frequent customers. Ernie would share his new food creations with us. We would travel from Oakley to Garden City just to eat at his restaurant. Rest In Peace, Ernie.

Rod and I went to school with Barbara and she was such a happy and loving person as she was raised by such a loving family. She always spoke proudly of her brother Ernie. She took a bunch of her fellow classmates to eat at his restaurant during one of our class reunions and he welcomed all of us as if he knew us all personally. His hospitality and personality really shined. Such a huge loss for not only his family but his restaurant and the community. Prayers to all his family and friends.

I was in the chancel choir when Ernie was the director. One thing that has always stuck with me was his prayers. He always gave the most beautiful, sincere prayers. He included well wishes and asked for guidance for all, even people I would not have though to add or do not know personally. I always think about those people, the president, Congress, military...etc. He was extremely thoughtful and definitely made an impact on other’s life, including my own. RIP Ernie❤️

I graduated from GCHS in the same class as Ernie and his brother Nick. I’ve known of the Ortiz family my whole life and they’re always known as a talented and civic minded family. Ernie was no exception and he was the epitome of ‘a friend to all’. My prayer is that God grants the family the strength to withstand this tragedy, while retaining their walk in Grace and Love. May you all have peace in your heart!

Ernie was thought of as a permanent and universally loved personality in Garden City, but sadly, death has taken him away from all those people who loved and respected him. He will be so sadly missed. Larry and I send our sympathy to all his family, friends and all those young people who Ernie mentored over the years.

My family has known the Ortiz family for many years. (My mom Rosa purchased one of there homes) When we would go to his home he was always smiling. He would always offer me and my kids a soda and majority of the time we went was to pay rent but we would leave as if we had sat there for hours. I know it sounds strange but when you have a simple conversation with kind hearted person u leave the conversation happy. Good people should live long full filled lives but Ernie is in a better place now. His close friend mentioned on the news that him and ernie had dreams..i think you should...in honor of ernie..dont give up..dont get discouraged. Sending prayers your way..u got this Mr Landreros. Much love...
