Please share a memory of Elva to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elva G Moreno, age 89, died peacefully surrounded by a family who loved her on July 10, 2019 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was born on October 6, 1929 in Monte Morelos Nuevo Leon Mexico, the daughter of Simon and Florinda Garza Cantu.
She was a very hard working, NO nonsense, practical person. She loved God and her Redeemer Jesus Christ. She didn’t require a lot to be happy and was always content with what God provided. As a child she loved to play marbles with her schoolmates and neighborhood friends. As she grew to be a teenager her dream was to be a singer. Her favorite singer growing up and as an adult was Chelo Silva. As an adult she worked alongside her husband as a farmhand throughout Texas as well as caring for her family full time. Arriving in Garden City Ks in 1966 she continued her commitment as a full time Homemaker. She loved to cook and care for her family and took pride in keeping a very clean home and well kept family.
When visitors came she could always be found in the house cooking or cleaning. Around meal time the house smelled of fresh tortillas and the amazing aroma of her food. During the day the house smelled of a fresh cleaning of pine sol. Mama, well she always smelled of Imari or Paloma Picasso, her favorite scents.
On spring, summer and fall weekends she and her beloved husband Juan, of almost 70 years would often spend time listening to music together. She enjoyed spending time with her family and getting out with them as often as possible. She will always be remembered for her loud smacking kisses and a constant blessing. Whenever we would part company for any reason, she would always kiss us and send us off with, “Que Dios te bendiga” (May God bless you.)
On August 6, 1949, she married Juan Pablo Moreno in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
The story was often told of how Juan saw her and immediately fell in love with her light skin and auburn hair. Before ever speaking one word to her, he spoke to her mother and made his intensions of marrying her known. She said she admired his courage and boldness to pursue her as he did, making it easy to put her love, life and trust in his hands for a future together.
She is survived by Six Children, Juan Jose Moreno of Garden City, Kansas, Jesus Garza Moreno of Augusta Kansas, Juan Pablo Moreno of Wichita Kansas, Marco Antonio Moreno of Wichita, Kansas, Aaron Garza Moreno of Garden City, Kansas, Norma Icela Plummer of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; One Brother, Simon Garza Jr of Pasadena Texas; 27 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren.
