Doris & Art were good neighbors to our family. We always bought eggs at their farm. First from Hazel & then from Doris. We spent a lot of evenings watching Art ride in rodeos in Lakin, Garden City, & many fairs. He was a tough man but always had a smile. May your memories be your comfort.

My sympathy to the family. I would sure like to see the family. I haven't seen Author since I don't recall when. My wife Lori lost her cousin to cancer & her funeral is the same day. One of my fondest memories of Uncle Art was when I was 4-5 years old during wheat harvest. We had just finished harvesting one field, preparing to move to an adjacent field. I don't recall the circumstances but there was a grain truck left in the finished field & no one to move it to the uncut field. Somehow I was in the vicinity & Uncle Art put me behind the wheel of the truck. While standing on the running board, he put the truck in 1st gear & let the clutch out, instructing me where to drive the truck & to turn the ignition key off when I got there. I couldn't reach the foot pedals so drove slowly at idle speed. I recall driving past my Dad driving a combine & proudly waving at him. My Dad had me driving shortly thereafter! I fondly recall this story, telling it on occasion as it seems appropriate, along with many other memorable events growing up on the farm.

My fondest memory of my great uncle Art is the time that I went pheasant hunting with him as a child, and his talking toilet at his house. I will miss him greatly.

I am one of the daughters. There are so many memories that I have, but one keeps popping up in my mind. One evening when mom and dad got home from working in the fields i went to the back porch and dad came up to me and just gave me biggest hug that you could imagine. I was young at that time and it made me feel like he was protecting me and comforting me.
