Obituary of Mildred Corn

Mildred L. Corn, age 85, died Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas. She was born on October 18, 1924 in Three Forks, Montana, the daughter of Ralph E. & Nelle M. Gentry Beach. At the age of three the Beach's moved back to western Kansas where Ralph ranched and farmed in Scott and Finney Counties. She attended Garden City Junior College graduating in 1942 and graduated from KSU in 1945 with a degree Home Economics. In 1969 she and her husband opened Mr. Jack's Boutique. She enjoyed working in the fashion industry working for such places as The Vogue Shop and Inez's.
She attended the Community Christian Church of Scott City, Kansas, and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta and Beta Sigma Phi Sororities and was an Alumni of KSU. Mildred was active at Friend Grade School while her children attended and was a past President of the Friend PTA. She taught Bible & Sunday School at the Church of the Brethren at Friend and loved reading her bible. Mildred had a strong faith in God and had quite a talent for tole and ceramic painting. She also volunteered as a patient rep at St. Catherine Hospital and worked in the Gift Nook. Mother put up a strong fight and all the nurses at Scott County Hospital loved her. Through all of her suffering she still had a smile on her face for all who came to see her. She will be greatly missed by all of us.
On June 1, 1948 she married Jack C. Corn in Garden City, Kansas. He passed away on January 26, 1991 in Garden City, Kansas.
Survivors Include her Friend & Companion of 31 years - Jerry Cowel; Two Sons - Don (& Linda) Corn of Denver, Colorado, Jack (& Beth) Corn of Littleton, Colorado; Three Daughters - Kimberly (& Don) Reule of Garden City, Kansas, Gloria (& Gaylen) Olmstead of Huntley, Montana, Teresa Corn of Scott City, Kansas, Ten Grandchildren, Eleven Great-Grandchildren and one Great-Great-Grandson, Four Step-Grandchildren, Seven Step Great-Grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Ronald, Gerald & Freeman Beach, sisters Jeanne Corley & Katherine Nottingham.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Monday, March 29, 2010 at the Community Christian Church of Scott City, Kansas with Rev. Troy Schroeder presiding.
Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City. The family will be available from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday to greet the public.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday @ the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas with Pastor Tim Fields presiding.
The family requests memorials be given to Scott County Hospital for the Nursing Department in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Scott City or Garden City.
