Obituary of Edith Berend

Marienthal, Kansas Edith Marie Berend, age 81, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. Edith was born October 20, 1932 at Coronado, Kansas, the daughter of August & Beata Kreutzer Luebbers. A lifetime resident of the Marienthal, Kansas area, she was a homemaker. Edith was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Mary Alter Society, both of Marienthal, Kansas. She served on the Board of Directors for the Community Thrift Shop in Leoti, Kansas and was once active in the Marienthal Meadowlarks 4-H program. On August 1, 1955, Edith married Harold Berend at Marienthal, Kansas. Edith's surviving family includes- Her Husband- Harold Berend- Marienthal, Kansas Seven Children- Janet & Arturo Pacheco- Garland, Texas Deanna & Charlie Fraley- Dighton, Kansas Linda & Joe Becker- Hays, Kansas Mike Berend- Leoti, Kansas Rita & Simon Bartel- Garden City, Kansas Carol & Daren Ruth- Johnson, Kansas Gina & Jimmy Perkins- McKinney, Texas Six brothers- Omer "Boots" Luebbers- Liberal, Kansas Gus Luebbers- Marienthal, Kansas Pete Luebbers- Marienthal, Kansas Hans Luebbers- Hutchinson, Kansas Don Luebbers- De Ridder, Louisiana Jerry Luebbers- Rainier, Oregon Sixteen grandchildren, Seven great grandchildren Her parents, two sisters and a son, Gordon Berend, precede her in death. Vigil Services will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday, April 24, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am Friday, April 25, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas with Father Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery at Marienthal, Kansas. Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday and from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas. Memorials may be given to The Wichita County Amusement Association or the Marienthal Meadowlarks 4-H in care of the funeral home.
