Obituary of Barbara McKenna

Barbara J. McKenna, age 75, died Thursday, December 5, 2013 at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Garden City, Kansas. She was born March 30, 1938 in Herington, Kansas the daughter of Tom & Winona Strohmeier Holzmeister. A resident of Garden City since 1973, she was a paraprofessional for USD 457 for many years and retired as a childcare provider. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Church Choir, Finney County Senior Center, the Community Choir and was a volunteer at Edith Scheuerman Elementary all of Garden City. In 1957, she married Daniel McKenna in Salina, Kansas. He passed away in 2011 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Survivors include: Two Sons, Thomas (& Angela) McKenna of Andover, Kansas and Daniel (& Sharla) McKenna of Bend, Oregon; Three Daughters, Kathy (& Marv) Gorsky of Topeka, Kansas, Maureen (& Tim) Krantz of Garden City, Kansas and Patricia (& Gerald) Gallegos of Colorado Springs, Colorado; One Sister, Beth Commerford of Salina, Kansas; Thirteen Grandchildren, Erika Schaffer, Khara Loeppke, Cole Proffitt, Jason Proffitt, Austin McKenna, Katie McKenna, Aubrey McKenna, Stephanie Mulligan, Erin McKenna, Matthew McKenna, Isaac Stowe, Michael Gallegos and Zach Gallegos. Five Great-Grandchildren, Riley Loeppke, Ava Grace Schaffer, McKenna Schaffer, Frank Scheffer III and BamBam Witt Rosary will be held at 7:00pm, Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City, Kansas. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am on Monday, December 9, 2013 at the church. There will be no calling times. Private Family Inurnment will take place at a later date in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Salina, Kansas. Memorials may be given to the Barbara McKenna Memorial Fund in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
