Obituary of Max Jay

Max D. Jay, age 70, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas. Max was born March 13, 1942 at Bucklin, Kansas, the son of Fred D. & Eva O. Hornish Jay. He was a farmer and a lifetime resident of the Kearny and Wichita Counties area. Max was a member of the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas as well as the Wichita County Historical Society, Wichita County Amusement Association and had served as clerk for the West Hibbard Township of Kearny County, Kansas. In 1962 he married Rosemary Schwindt at Leoti, Kansas. They later divorced. On January 7, 1991 he married Mary Hemmert Phillis at Raton New Mexico. Max's surviving family includes- His wife Mary Jay- Kearny County, Kansas Six Children- Mystel & Lyle Bausch- Hoyt, Kansas Shad Jay- Hays, Kansas Thayl Jay- Hays, Kansas Steve & Francine Phillis- Garden City, Kansas Ron Phillis- Garden City, Kansas Linda & Bryan Mulligan- Scott City, Kansas His Mother- Eva Jay- Leoti, Kansas Two sisters- Beverly & Dick Zobel- Wasilla, Alaska Bessie & Jim Young- Wichita, Kansas Ten Grandchildren and seven great grandchildren A brother, Wilbur Jay and his father, Fred Jay precede him in death. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, June 22, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas with the Reverend Mike Howard officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery in Leoti, Kansas. Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday and from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas. Memorials may be given to the Wichita County Amusement Association or Garden City Special Olympics in care of the funeral home.
