Obituary of Louis Zirkel

Garden City, Kansas Louis D. Zirkel Sr., age 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012 at his home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on July 5, 1923 in Oxford, Kansas the son of Henry W. and Viola Jackson Zirkel. A resident of Garden City since 1946 he had worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service and for over 14 years for the St. Catherine Hospital courier service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the VFW, the Eagles Lodge, the National Association of Letter Carriers and he was a WWII US Army Veteran. On January 1, 1943 he married Bonnie A. Collins in Boise City, Oklahoma. She died August 2, 1989. On February 29, 1992 he married Mary L. Wewer John in Garden City, Kansas. She died October 16, 1994. Then on February 22, 2005 he married Betty Ritter in Payson, Arizona. She survives. Other Survivors Include: Two Sons, Louis D. Zirkel Jr. of Council Grove, Kansas and Dennis L. Zirkel of Wichita, Kansas; Three Daughters, Diana L. Pfeifer of Holcomb, Kansas, Connie S. Braun of Deerfield, Kansas and Donna K. Batt of Pueblo West, Colorado; One Step-Son, Jimmy John of Garden City, Kansas; Four Step-Daughters, Delores Jones of Woodward, Oklahoma, Jane Lubbers of Collinsville, Texas, Karen Yates of Beaver, Oklahoma and Vida Cano of Beaver, Oklahoma; One Sister, Dorothy Wright of Longmont, Colorado; Seventeen Grandchildren, Twenty-Seven Great-Grandchildren and Two Great-Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and One Brother, Edwin Zirkel. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, February 24, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Garden City, Kansas. Friends may call from 1:00-8:00pm Thursday and from 10:00-11:00am Friday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas. Interment will be held in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas. Memorials may be given to the St. Catherine Hospice in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
