Imelda Jane "Millie" Smith

Imelda Jane “Millie” (Baker) Smith, age 86, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021, at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas.  Imelda was born on September 6, 1934, on the Baker family homestead north of Marienthal, Kansas to Anthony Baker and Caecilia (Baier) Baker.  She grew up on the family farm north of Marienthal.

Millie married Gerald Joseph Smith on June 24, 1953, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas.  She was a lifetime resident of Marienthal, Kansas.  Millie was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and gardening.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Altar Society of Marienthal and was a devout Catholic.

Survivors include her three daughters; Sharry (Clem) Nelson of Johnson, Kathy (Dale) Owings of Lawrence and Ruth (Bill) Hovey of Olathe; three sons, Earl (Deb) Smith of Marienthal, Don (Liz) Smith of Scott City, and Ernie (Christi) Smith of Scott City; one sister, Inella Scheffe; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, an infant son Joseph, her parents, and siblings Bernadine Pahls, Marguerite Zellner, Florence Zellner, Mary Ann Winter, Louis Baker, Elizabeth Geyer, Joseph Baker, Celine Wimmer, and Bernard Baker.

Visitation will be at Price and Son’s Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas on Sunday, February 7 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and Monday, February 8 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  A Vigil service will be held at 6:30 pm, Monday, February 8th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marienthal.  Vigil services will be streamed live on Facebook at Western Kansas Catholic Home page (www.facebook.com/Western-Kansas-Catholic-108601367460773) starting at 6:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Tuesday, February 9th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marienthal with Father Tim Hickey presiding.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 210 N. 2nd, Marienthal, KS 67863.  Funeral services will be streamed live on Facebook at Price and Sons Funeral Home page (www.facebook.com/priceandsons) starting at 9:55 a.m.
